News Editorial - The 14th battalion LINE

Joseph Pavone,
Bourbon Sicilian descendant of the hero, Lieutenant Benedict Pavone

the 14th battalion LINE ARMY OF THE TWO Sicily during the military campaign from September to November 1860

the Annual Review "Military Studies Sorico-2008", published in late 2010 by History of the Italian Army General Staff, was recently published essay by Joseph Pavone, the title above, reproducing, commenting extensively, the Memorial Day-bed military campaign from the Volturno to the principle of the siege of Gaeta from September 6th to November 19, 1860 limited insofar as it concerns the 3rd Company Captain Sinibaldo Or-lando 14th Battalion of the Hunters, preserved in the Archives of the Central Museum of Risor-ment of Rome and is part of the documentary collection belonged to Harry Nelson Gay.
The essay is part of the historiographical contributions of the campaigning in the recovery of archival documents relating in particular the last defense of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies in which participation Rono his direct ancestors, specifically his great-grandfather officer in the 14th Battalion hunters.

The memorial is anonymous, but we have reason to believe that its author was the captain Sinibaldo Orlando, commander of the 3rd Company. First reason is that the constant reference to the exploits of Captain Orlando and his state of mind - those glaring relativi all’azione sul colle Lombone e al precedente incontro con Francesco II – rendono improbabile che un altro mi-litare abbia potuto annotare, o successivamente apprendere e descrivere, fatti personali e moti inte-riori di un’altra persona.
Del Giornaletto sono noti due esemplari: quello conservato nell’Archivio del Museo Centra-le del Risorgimento ed un altro in possesso di un collezionista privato ; i testi I know-no two copies of nearly identical but the paper is setting out for his public traceability, with the novel-served at the Museo del Risorgimento, and that seems to be an early draft for the many corrections, deletions and additions in its present and that would lead to complete the manuscript if condo-characterized, compared to the first, from modest variations and refinements which, in any event, are presented in the paper document for completeness. The title
military magazines shows that it is a daily diary of military facts not reported, therefore, to a more Chronicle. The manuscript is missing, in fact, argues-ment strategy and tactics, the context of the entire Campaign and, to some extent, the Battalion of belonging and there is also contained several errors concerning dates, names and places (in the essay which is remedied through many notes). For these reasons, the historical contribution of the manuscript is objectively poor and even misleading for the aforementioned errors, but you can appreciate important confirmations and other memorials of food for thought, both human and on the direction of the military campaign, leaving to understand what was the "climate conditions" in which fighters Bourbon at the bodies. The publication of magazines is therefore no reason under the direct testimony of the protagonists of the Bourbon party which, though very probably did not have knowledge of the social, economic and political, internal and external to their kingdom, certainly did not ignore what their institutional duty of soldiers all the time, place and circumstance, is to defend in arms their Country; duty despite the obvious next final defeat worthily fulfilled until the end showing an attitude, a discipline, a fidelity which aroused the admiration of all.
restricting as proposed in other publications, only the transcription of the magazines, which plots the exploits of a small number of fighters, would reduce the deeds themselves to a series of events frabile Indec-diminishing meaning and value. Thus in the essay was carried out as described in the comic frame in the operational context of the entire Battalion and, as far as possible, in the scenario of the autumn campaign. Context and scenario that you have chosen to represent each day, using a systematic, in the notes to specific excerpts from the famous chronicle of the campaign of John Fall Of France and to some useful contributions by other authors, all recognized for reliability historiography. The essay then allows us to offer the widest possible framework of fact made by the 14th Battalion Hunters during the "Country Autumn" remaining immersed in the "climate conditions" borbonico.

Il saggio è poi corredato di un ampio Repertorio names with all the personal character of each Member, complete as far as possible, and the task covered at the time, which compiled the footage has led to a specific inquiry from a variety of sources beyond those re-flow in the Bibliography. Finally, eight color plates and b / w enrich the test.
